Maria Balshaw, then Director of Manchester's Whitworth Gallery, winner of the 2015 Art Fund Museum of the Year award, travels the length of Britain to discover the five finalists for the competition in 2016. The museums on the shortlist were the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Jupiter Artland in Edinburgh, the Arnolfini in Bristol, York Art Gallery in York and the Bethlem Museum of the Mind in London. Shortly after this project was completed, Maria was appointed as the first female Director of Tate.
