Thurston Moore

Punk Rock 1976

A 30 min Artsnight film for BBC Two, 2016
BBC London

Presented by Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore, this film celebrated the fortieth anniversary of Punk Rock, with interviewees including Pete Shelley from the Buzzcocks, Chrissie Hynde from the Pretenders, and director Julien Temple. The highlight of the documentary was the discovery of a previously unknown bootleg recording of a 17 year old Thurston Moore, singing 'Oh Bondage! Up Yours!' onstage at CBGB NYC in 1978 with X-Ray Spex. Celeste Bell, daughter of the band's late front woman Poly Styrene, played the recording to Thurston, who was previously unaware of its existence.
